Mr. Fernandez serves as JPMorgan’s Head of Emerging Asia Research team. Before joining JPMorgan in January 1998, Mr. Fernandez spent five years as a professor of economics at the Johns Hopkins University International Studies School where he taught international macroeconomics. He was named Professor of the Year in 1996.
Earlier, he served as an Economist in the Council of Economic Advisers in the administration of U.S. President George Bush. In 1987, he joined the Federal Reserve Bank of New York in its OECD economic research department and in the foreign exchange intervention group.
Mr. Fernandez has a B.A. in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania and received a Doctorate in Economics from Princeton University where, as a National Science Foundation fellow, he wrote his dissertation under Ben S. Bernanke.
In addition to his work at JPMorgan, Mr. Fernandez is on the Advisory Board of Singapore Management University’s School of Economics and Social Sciences.

Dean Maki is a Managing Director and Chief US Economist at Barclays Capital. Based in New York, he is responsible for analyzing and forecasting the Ueconomy and monetary and fiscal policy.
Mr. Maki joined Barclays Capital in February 2005 from JP Morgan Chase, where he was Vice President of Economic Research responsible for forecasts of Federal Reserve policy, the federal budget and Treasury debt issuance. Prior to this, he was a US economist at Putnam Investments and a Senior Economist at the Federal Reserve Board, where his research focused on the relationship between household balance sheets and consumer spending. His research has been published in a number of academic journals.
Mr. Maki holds a Ph.D. in economics from Stanford University and a BA in economics from St. Olaf College.

Young Chin is chief investment officer of Pyramis Global Advisors, a Fidelity Investments company. Mr. Chin, a 28-year veteran of the investment management business, previously served as president and chief executive offi cer, Gartmore Global Investments, and co-global chief investment offi cer—equities, Gartmore Group, in Conshohocken, PA. In these dual roles, he oversaw investment units in the U.S., the U.K, and Japan with assets of more than $80 billion.
Prior to joining Gartmore, Mr. Chin was managing director, head of equity management, and director of equity management research for Brown Brothers Harriman in New York from 1999 to 2001. Previously, he served in a number of roles during the formation and building of PNC Financial’s asset management business, including serving on the management committee of BlackRock. Mr. Chin began his investment career at Harris Bank in Chicago in 1978. Over a period of 14 years at Harris, including eight years serving as the director of a quantitative investment consulting service, he worked with more than 400 investment organizations that included investment advisors, pension plans, endowments, and foundations. Born in 1957, Mr. Chin received a bachelor of arts degree in economics in 1978 and a master’s degree in business administration in fi nance in 1982, both from the University of Chicago.

Michael Wu is the Chief Representative for Northern Trust in Beijing. Gene Chen joined Russell Investment Group in March 2005 in the capacity of Chief Representative for Greater China. Prior to joining Russell, he served as Director and Head of Regional Development at HSBC Asset Management in Hong Kong. There, he oversaw HSBC Asset Management’s expansion into regional markets outside Hong Kong which included the search for an acquisition or a joint venture partner in mainland China. Prior to HSBC, Gene served for 10 years in Hong Kong as Asia regional Managing Director for BARRA, an institutional investor risk management consultancy, in the 1990’s.
On the subject of wealth management, Mr. Chen lead Russell’s effort to launch it’s wealth management program in Taiwan with Russell’s Taiwan partner, Polaris Securities. At HSBC Asset Management, the channel management group in the Asia region X-Hong Kong which has to support HSBC distribution partners in their wealth management campaigns in the region reported in to Mr. Chen. He is also involved in a U.S. investor group planning a roll up of independent financial advisors (IFAs) in the U.S. and Asia.
Prior to BARRA, Mr. Chen spent 7 years in the Semiconductor industry in the Silicon Valley in various R&D, design, and manufacturing positions with Fairchild Semiconductor and IXYS Semiconductor. Mr. Chen has a BSc.in Chemical Engineering and an MBA both from the University of California at Berkeley. He has spoken at numerous industry conferences, published various technical journal articles, and holds a patent in a third generation DMOS semiconductor chip design.

Xin Yan graduated from University of Science and Technology of China and received her doctorate degree in Statistics from Columbia University in the City of New York in 2004. She has successfully spearheaded her quantitative skills at Columbia, Washington Mutual, and Russell Investments.

Chong Jin Leow, Executive Vice President, is Head of BNY Mellon Asset Servicing for Asia Pacific, which provides institutions in the Asian region with global custody, global fund services, foreign exchange, securities lending, global liquidity services, transfer agency, transition management, offshore fund administration, performance analytics and compliance reporting services.
Chong reports to Tim Keaney, Co-Chief Executive Officer of BNY Mellon Asset Servicing and is a member of the Operating Committee of The Bank of New York Mellon.
Chong was recruited by The Bank of New York in July 2006 as its head of asset servicing for Asia Pacific. Prior to this appointment, he held the position of Asia Chief Executive for Investor Services at State Street Bank and Trust, and Managing Director, Head of Customer Management Asia Pacific, overseeing sales, client management and client service at Deutsche Bank and Bankers Trust for close to a decade.
A naturalized Australian, Chong was born in Penang, Malaysia where he attended high school before gaining a degree with a major in Accounting from Monash University, Melbourne, Australia. He began his career with Citibank Australia as a management trainee in 1981, and spent thirteen years working for Citibank in multiple locations, before he joined Bankers Trust Company in 1994.
